I LOVED Olivia's story. I had liked Olivia as a character when she appeared however briefly in the last book so was glad that she got a book of her own. The author did a good job in misleading us as to who the protagonist is. I did have my suspicions but was not absolutely sure about it until it was revealed at the end of the book. The book is well edited and the story flows smoothly. This is a definite re-read for me! It is so hard to find a great story that is clean. This book delivers without the gratuitous sex found in other books. I started the book in the evening and didn't want to be it down. I very seldom read a book twice but this is a definite re-read for me!Product details

This was a great book that I thoroughly enjoyed. The main character, Olivia, was portrayed in a way that I found her to be both credible and like-able. She is a maverick for her day and age in pursuing a fencing academy and her growth in independence and strength keep developing when she is suspected of murder. Her love interest is also portrayed in a way that makes him respectably aloof yet of course, hopelessly in love with her. The tension between the two of them is prolonged and intense enough that you keep turning pages wondering when they will get together.
I especially liked the supporting character, Cynthia Denholm as a foil to display Olivia's character but also as a model in independence and forthright speaking. She was interesting and the dialogue was at times, humorous.
The setting, historical period and costumes were well presented without being obtrusive or distracting. I like to get the flavour without a lot of bogged down details and the writer accomplished this with ease.
The story flowed at a good pace and I found the ending (aside from the romance) surprising when the mystery was finally divulged. Nice job and great story. Would highly recommend it!
As full disclosure I was given a free copy of this book for an honest review, so I am pleased to be able to give it an enthusiastic 5 stars. First a technical critique although there were a few grammatical errors and a missing word here and there, they were far fewer than the typical ebook. In fact, I consider myself something of a grammar nerd, and this book pleases. The period descriptions of clothing, furnishings and life styles were detailed without being tedious as is so often the case. In fact, they definitely added flavor and interest to the story.
Now to the best part the story. It was intricate and not really what I was expecting at all. It definitely exceeded my expectations. Olivia, the female lead, goes through definite character growth, and Milbourn is everything you could ask for in a reluctant hero. The other reviews and the synopsis give a good picture of the story, so just know that there are plenty of twists and turns and yes, the heroine is indeed in danger of being accused of murder. I read it in one day, because I didn't want to put it down....good thing I am retired and love to read!
Love her books! I really enjoyed this one, too. I love string independent women and happy endings. 😊

I enjoyed the suspense in this story. A little slow moving with all the details, which sometimes overwhelms the story. But I enjoyed the characters. A good recency romance.
